The fact that there are many other people, of all shapes and sizes, working out is a great way of surrounding yourself with an environment that is conducive to exercise. You won’t look out of place.
The range of machines on offer is typically way larger than you anticipated or require. If you use a fair few of them you will be gaining a more overall and well proportioned workout of your bodies musculature. Additionally you will not be bored so easily.

Fitness clubs are typically open early and close late, allowing you to exercise at a time that suits you.
A range of motivating exercise plans or classes can be started. These can involve a variety of activities and are a great way of instantly gaining an effective workout routine in addition to potentially meeting new people.
Health clubs often have swimming pools, Jacuzzis, steam rooms, saunas and the like in which you are able to fully relax after a full work out. These extra more soothing activities often further improve your overall health, e.g. saunas promote weight loss and a detox effect.
Constant honing and toning of your body means that you will be able to play sports at a much higher level. Increased fitness will mean you have more chance of tiring out your opponent, whilst regular stretching and therefore increased body flexibility will mean you can react faster, with more body movements that can potentially provide the winning move.
Useful tips for trips to health clubs
Make sure you are wearing attire that is suitable for the activities you wish to pursue. Clothing should allow full body movement, be well ventilated and wick moisture away from the skin, so as to prevent skin rubbing and subsequent abrasion.
Bring a small towel to mop up your sweat and clean the machine after use.
Bring the correct change for lockers in the changing room.
Bring a water bottle filled with an energy drink of sorts, to prevent dehydration or energy loss whilst exercising. Use this periodically during and between workouts.
If you can try to bring friends along and get them interested in exercising. Ideally they will start to go, providing further reasons to keep the membership. At the same time don’t become too reliant on other people. Often people won’t have the same desires, needs or time as you.
If you have not done much exercise at all before visit your local GP for advice on starting an exercise routine. Remember to start off gently, doing a little often. Then build on that foundation. This advice, as well as ensuring you stretch well before and after your workouts, means you will be less prone to injuries.
